Ashton Vale is situated in a quiet area of Ashton, South Bristol, and has splendid views of the Ashton Court Estate and Clifton Suspension Bridge. It comprises of a mix of owner occupied 1930s terrace and semi-detached houses with post war council house accommodation. The area is on the edge of the city of Bristol, is quiet and has the feel of a village atmosphere about it. Many parents and grandparents attended the school, and there is a well developed sense of community.

The school was built in 1949, on a spacious campus with 5 general classrooms, 2 classrooms have been added in 2009 giving us a total of 7.There are a number of small work areas. It has a large hall, kitchen and an I.C.T. suite which was added in April 2000. As you can see the school environment is very attractive. We have mature trees, flower beds, a cycle storage unit, wildlife area with pond, a sensory/music trail, a vegetable gardens, two playgrounds, a playing field and adventure playground.

We were previously an infant school with children transferring to other primary schools at the age of 8. Since 1995, the school has catered for the full primary age range, with pupils 4-11 years of age. The staffing consists of; head, deputy, 4 full-time teachers and 3 job share teachers. There are 8 learning support assistants (7 part-time and 1 full-time,) a bursar, and a site manager. The ethos of the school arises from a feeling of partnership, with close co-operation between pupils, staff, parents, governors, LA and members of the community.

The school is organised into a reception class, a year 1 class, a year 2 class, a year 3/4 class, a year 4/5 class and a year 6 class.
The school is a lively place for children. They are encouraged to take an active role in their learning, taking more and more responsibility as they move up through the school. There are high expectations of academic, social and moral achievement, while attending to individuals who need extra support and encouragement to fulfill their potential. There is an active school council. Children are encouraged to develop physical, artistic and creative talents through the curriculum and a range of extra curricular activities, using staff and parental support.

In May 2009 95% of the year 6 gained level 4 or above in English, 82% gained level 4 or above in maths and 100% gained level 4 or above in science.
